Why batteries die in Orlando
Orlando's heat is hard on batteries. National Weather Service 1991–2020 normals put the July high at 92.0°F, with nights near 73°F. AAA says heat speeds up battery wear and that in hot southern areas a battery typically lasts about three years, versus five or more up north.
January normals of 71.8°F and 49.5°F sound mild, but a battery weakened by a long summer often quits on the first cool morning after a front, when the starter needs a little more effort. That is why the driver checks the battery after every jump.
Habits add to it. Cars sit for a week in airport and resort lots, and commuters crawl along I-4 in afternoon downpours with air conditioning, wipers and headlights all drawing power. Short hops between Lake Nona, the attractions and downtown never let the alternator fully recharge.
Which jump do you need?
- Cars, rentals and small SUVsMost Orlando calls are sedans and crossovers, many of them rentals near International Drive and the airport. The driver boosts the car and checks the charging voltage. With a rental, check the agreement first.Tell the operator: Make, model, rental or not, and whether you hear a click or slow crank.
- Pickups and full-size SUVsTheme park pickups and three-row SUVs often run roof boxes, screens and chargers. The driver brings a booster sized for bigger engines.Tell the operator: Year, engine size, and any dual batteries or accessories.
- HybridsA hybrid that will not power on usually has a weak 12-volt battery. The driver uses the manufacturer's jump terminals, sometimes under the hood.Tell the operator: Model, year, and whether dash lights come on.
- Electric vehicles (12-volt only)A flat 12-volt battery can stop an EV from unlocking or waking, even with range left. That jump is $140 + tax. If the main battery ran out after a long Beachline run, you need mobile charging.Tell the operator: Model, and whether the screen is dark or shows low range.
- Diesel trucks and vansDiesels need more cranking power, so the driver brings a heavier booster for work trucks on SR-417 and convention vans on International Drive.Tell the operator: That it is a diesel, engine size, and battery count.
When a jump is not the fix
- If an EV's main battery is empty, a jump will not help. Ask for mobile EV charging, $175 + tax. Mobile EV charging in Orlando.
- Afternoon storms can flood streets fast, as Thornton Park saw in September 2024, when some cars had to be towed out. If yours stalled in water, do not try to restart or jump it, because that can damage the engine and electronics. Ask for a flatbed tow. Towing in Orlando.
- If the battery will not hold a charge, the next step is a tow to a shop or home, or a new battery from a shop or parts store. Replacement is not part of this service. Towing in Orlando.
Where you are in Orlando, and what to tell us

- Kia Center garagesName the garage, such as the ThreatLocker Garage on West South Street or the 55W Garage on West Pine Street, and the level. Post-event exit traffic can slow the driver, so stay with the car once you call.

How a Orlando jump start works
- 1Call (954) 539-7718 or book online, and give your spot: an MCO garage level, a downtown event garage or your last I-4 exit.
- 2The operator confirms the $140 + tax price and a typical 30–45 minute arrival before dispatch, and gives you a reference number.
- 3The driver jumps the car and checks the battery, since Orlando heat can leave one that starts once but fails within days.
- 4Pay at the end, once the engine runs. If the battery is done, the driver explains your options, including a tow.

- If you are hurt, in a crash or unsafe, call 911 first.

My battery died at UCF. Who should I call?+

Why do batteries die so often in Orlando summers?+

Yes. Give the hotel name, the lot or garage level, and the car's make. Check the rental agreement first, since some companies want you to call their own roadside line.
My EV died in a garage after a Kia Center event. Is that a jump?+
If the car is dark and will not wake, it is usually the 12-volt battery, covered by the $140 + tax jump. An empty main battery needs mobile charging at $175 + tax.
Must drivers move over while I wait on SR-417?+
Yes. Florida Statute 316.126 requires drivers to leave the lane next to a stopped vehicle with hazards on when safe, or slow to 20 mph below the limit.
